Avery and Evan playing

Here are a few videos in one of the babies playing together. They love to "talk" to each other and laugh now. Evan will also follow Avery around sometimes. They can be little chatterboxes somedays with us too.

Mobile babies

Well this crawling business isn't all it is cracked up to be. These kids are wearing me out. lol Actually I like that they crawl now because they are happier (for the most part) and keep themselves entertained better. Evan is so excited he can crawl and when he goes longer distances he starts making these excited noises like he is so happy for himself. It is so cute! He is almost as fast as Avery now.

Evan also started pulling up on his own this week. I was sitting on the couch in the playroom reading while they played and he crawled up to the couch and pulled himself up to his feet like he had been doing it forever. Maybe he just wasn't motivated before. Getting down is a different story but we will work on that!

Avery said bye this week! She only does it when she wants to so we aren't completely sure she understands but when Andy leaves for work he always says bye and waves to them and Wednesday morning she said bye right back to him. She did it about 4 times on Thursday and then nothing on Friday. Maybe she was tired of it?

Evan has been a grouch off and on and waking up at night for the past couple weeks and I kept feeling his bottom gums but nothing is breaking through yet. I would put orajel on his bottom gums but sometimes he would still fuss. Last night I looked at his mouth when he was laughing and saw a top tooth poking through! I feel so silly that I didn't even think to check the top gums! Poor baby! I thought they got bottom teeth first. I guess I am still learning.

For those that don't know, Andy is leaving again in February for 6 weeks of training in Alabama. He should be able to come home on the weekends (which will be such a relief for me). He will be back for 2 weeks and we will have their birthday party then he leaves again in April for 6 weeks of training and we won't see him until he gets back in May. So essentially it is another 3 months of training with a bit of a break in between. I am not sure what it will be like for me now since they are mobile and I am dreading it. I'm not sure I am ready to do this alone with 2 babies that are crawling!

Now that they are so mobile, they love to come in the kitchen with me to play while I cook (which seems to be all the time now that we all eat 3 meals a day together). They love tupperware and water bottles to play with so that is their kitchen toys.

Their are two videos in one here of what Evan does with the tupperware lids and what we thought would be a better alternative. Notice he is also teasing Avery to try to get her to go after it and she isn't having it. They have played this game before!

Evan is crawling too!

Evan didn't want to be outdone by Avery so he started crawling this past week too! I was lucky enough to catch his first crawling "steps" too. How lucky am I? Oh and he isn't making any noise in the video but moving his mouth. Apparently he thinks I can read lips with babytalk!
He got off to a slow start on Friday and by today he is pretty quick. He still isn't very coordinated but he moves pretty fast now (almost like a little crab). My life is about to get even crazier I think with 2 mobile babies!

Happy 9 months!

Avery and Evan are 9 months old today. Where is time going? Only 3 short months until they are a year old!

We spent their 9 month day going to Toys R Us (an hour away) to buy more toddler type toys. Our house looks like a Fisher-Price store exploded in here! lol They definitely need some new toys to practice pulling up on though and to keep them entertained. We also bought a new activity walker and Avery is already pretty good. She stood up behind it and started walking. Evan needed a little more help to get the concept. He wanted to pull it backward to tip it over and play with it.

Avery is a crawling machine now. She followed me out of their bedroom to the bathroom tonight at bath time. She is getting pretty quick. This drives Evan nuts I think. He is getting so frustrated because he can't figure out how to go forward and keeps scooting back. Avery also pulls up on EVERYTHING now. Evan is almost there but gets frustrated.

Andy figured out how to upload videos on the computer so now I need to figure out how to upload them to here.

Edited: We had their 9 month appointment Monday and Avery weighs 17 lbs and is 27 3/4" long and Evan weighs 18 1/2lbs and is 27 1/2" long!

We've come a long way babies.....

This week I am especially thankful for these two blessings. A year ago on the 8th was the day I e-mailed my doctor telling him I wasn't feeling "right" and maybe I should get checked out before we traveled to TN for a baby shower. He had me come in as soon as I could and found that I was in pre-term labor. I was admitted to the hospital with no idea that I would spend the next 3 months of my life in a bed struggling to keep these babies in there as long as possible.

I went through so much after that but the end result could not be better. I could have lost them but I had the "mommy instinct" already that maybe something wasn't right. My doctor was good enough to check me without just blowing me off like some other doctors might have. It is a miracle that these babies are here and I am so thankful to have come so far in a year!

Moving forward in 2008

It has been a crazy week. Poor Evan was sick all week and Andy went back to work Thursday (when Evan was the sickest). It is really tough taking care of 2 babies when 1 is sick and you want to keep them as separated as possible. Thankfully we got him to the doc and he is on meds now. He is feeling much better than he was but still not himself yet.

While all this was going on, Miss Avery decided to start pulling up on things all the way to standing and to finally crawl FORWARD! She has been able to get to a sitting position from crawling for a couple of weeks and that was her favorite thing to do. Now she realizes she can go forward. She still isn't fast and doesn't go very far but she can really crawl now. Evan is still pushing up on all 4's and going backward. He stands better once you get him up but he isn't quite pulling up yet. When I figure out how to get videos from our new camera onto the computer, I will post a video of Avery crawling.

They both say mama and dada now. Sometimes we think they know what it means and other times we aren't so sure. Evan says it more consistently around who he is talking about. Avery also shakes her head no for some reason. It isn't always at appropriate times so she doesn't know what it means but it is funny. She had me worried since she was doing it so much so I had the doc check her ears but they were fine. They also both "dance" now when music is on. It is so funny.

They are doing so well with table foods. They have started having what we have for dinner. They LOVE baked ziti and Avery is a big fan of vegetable beef stew.

We are settled in and know our way around the small area outside the base. It is a whole other world here compared to what we were used to at our last base. We had to drive over an hour to get to a Toys R Us and Target a few weekends ago. It was so nice before just to go 5-10 minutes. Life is definitely different in a small town.

Here is a pic of the babies with one of their favorite new toys. You can use it for them to ride on or pull the seat apart and they can hold onto it and walk (it moves a little too fast for them to do that yet). Here they are trying it out together.
