Well we have been in Columbus for about 8 1/2 months now so I guess we aren't really new to the area anymore. Andy and I were discussing this the other day how we have almost been here a year already. This made me pretty homesick for Virginia! That sounds kind of crazy since I only lived in VA for almost 3 1/2 years and I lived in TN for 24!
I miss our old friends (although we love our new friends here). I miss the convenience of having so much nearby (Target, the mall, Red Robin, Texas Roadhouse, Outback). I miss not having this crazy humidity. I miss living near a beach in case we wanted to go for a day. I miss having lunch with Diane and Christina. I miss Jess stopping by after work to hang out. I miss chatting at work with Heather (although she has moved too). I even miss Collin coming over on Sundays for dinner and watching some tv. :-D
I also miss having my own life and identity outside of Andy's job or being A&E's mom. I was Traci to my own group of friends and at work. I wasn't Andy's wife (well to his friend's I was) or the twins' mom. I had my own set of friends and my own career. Don't get me wrong, I love being able to stay at home but sometimes I miss going to work and having me time. I REALLY, REALLY miss working at Huntington. I could have still worked part-time there if we were in VA.
This is all pretty ironic considering how much I hated VA when I first moved there. I was so used to laid back, East Tn and how nice and friendly people were. Moving to VA was culture shock for me. I was so homesick for Tn the first few months!
Maybe by the time we leave here and move to a new base, I will miss Columbus. I have found activities to do and made some great friends but it doesn't really feel like "home". In my mind, Virginia is "home" and Tennessee is "home" but I just really miss Virginia. I guess it has finally hit me that even if we do go back there, things won't be the same. We will never have that same life we had there.
This will be our life now. Moving on to a new place, new faces, a whole new life and sometimes that makes me sad but what an adventure. Not many people get a chance to do that where I am from!
Anyways on a lighter note, I have a super special day in the life blog post I am working on so everyone can see what our days are like with A&E!
