Bowling Field Trip

Friday I met A&E with their class at the local bowling alley. I like to bowl. I do not like to witness 60 4-5 year olds bowling. The bowling alley didn't have that many kids' shoes so they bowled in their socks. I was ready to have a nervous breakdown over someone dropping the ball on their toes. Thankfully no children were harmed in the making of this field trip. I was exhausted by the time we left though. Avery was a hot mess and very emotional. Lots of crying and pouting from that one. I have no clue why. It was just that kind of day for her.

100th Day (woop, woop)

This is what I repeatedly sang to A&E this morning. It was their 100th day of school (woop, woop). Thankfully they still find my dorkiness amusing. I'm sure that won't be true in a couple of years. 100 days is a milestone, people! We celebrated!

Their homework over the weekend was to put 100 things on a poster (in groups of 10s). We also practiced counting by 10s to 100.

Evan vs. Mom

E is quite the trash talker (but he gets it honest). The other night he was telling me that he is faster than I am. I told him we could race and see because I'm pretty sure I'm still faster. The challenge was set! Somehow the prize became the winner could spank the loser. Andy was even siding with him saying he probably is faster than me. It was on after that. I had something to prove.

It was already dark so he didn't want to do it that night. lol Andy didn't make it home in time last night so we decided Avery could be the judge and we did it when I picked them up from school.

Um....he's fast. Or maybe I'm just that slow. Anyway I really had to try to beat him. I better start training now for our next race because this was a close one. I am the champ though.

Cruise: Fun on the Ship

We took one day at port just to explore the ship and enjoy it without it being so crowded.

We went swimming a few times but it was pretty windy. I think the hot tubs were a bigger hit since the wind was pretty chilly and the water was freezing! I actually never got in the pool but I'd lay out and play in the hot tub.



The last night there was a parade on the promenade. We had a grumpy child so we missed the first part and it was too crowded to see when we made it. We walked around a bit instead.

MLK Day

We were busy Monday night with Avery going to ballet and Evan and I stayed home and had a game night. I forgot to post this.

I asked A&E separately who Martin Luther King Jr was and what he did. They've been talking about him at school and discussing being fair and treating people equally.

Evan: "He got shotted. They didn't like what he was saying. He said people shouldn't be unfair."

Avery: "He got dead because he got shot. The people didn't like what he said. He said everyone is good."

I think they get the gist. I never really taught a lesson on MLK when I was teaching but with special needs kids we were doing the very basics. Honestly I hadn't really thought about discussing it with A&E. I guess I like to let them imagine that the world is safe and fair right now. They'll learn soon enough that it isn't.

Cruise: Haiti

I have to admit, when I heard we were going to Haiti I had some doubts. All I really know of Haiti was the major disastrous hurricane they went through a few years ago. I definitely did not imagine it to be a cruise destination. I even wondered if maybe this was a visit to do relief work (which I am not against but found weird on a cruise). Apparently the cruise line owns part of the island so it is their own private island destination. It was very nice and had quite a few options for the beach. Plus the cruise childcare staff had an area where they would watch the kids so parents could get a break.
