This weekend was Andy's cross-country flight. I have no idea why they have to schedule them on the weekend except maybe that the Instructor's like to use it as a mini-vacation and party.
Andy has been gearing up for it along with completing other flights all week so he has been very busy. A&E haven't seen him much and they miss him. He got home Thursday evening at bathtime and then left before we got up Friday to head out! I told him he owes me a nice, long break after having two potty training toddlers on my own for such a long amount of time!
Friday we had A&E's first speech therapy session. It was more of a get to know you type of thing with their therapists (they each have their own YAY!). They did really well with the Simon Says/Following Directions game but we play it alot to work on body parts. They had a little more trouble with other activities and would try to do the others' turn so the therapists are going to try working with them separately on Monday. The session was kind of short since we got started so late. They both had to potty but they don't like to go in public so it was a struggle to get them both to go (I ended up bribing them with gum and that worked).
That was the story of my morning though (potty struggles). We went to run errands and Avery would say she needed to potty then I would rush to find a restroom and she would start yelling NO! and refuse to try to potty. It happened this morning too at the grocery store but I didn't push it.
At home, they are both doing really well (except going #2 in the potty which freaks them out). Evan's biggest problem is getting too caught up in tv shows so we are definitely limiting tv even more (except tonight but that is a whole other story). Avery is getting much better and will stop whatever she is doing to go. They are both starting to complain alot more when they go in their pull-ups at nap and bedtime now so I am not sure how much longer it will be until they are in undies all the time. It is pretty exhausting now so hopefully they give me a little time. I still have to take them both to the bathroom and help them each time and it seems pretty constant with 2!
Today was a pretty rough day. They really gave me a run for my money today and I am not feeling well this evening so I am ready for Andy to come home and give me that break! ;-)

Speech and stuff
At A&E's 2 year check-up I mentioned to the doc that I have some concerns with A&E's speech so she gave us a referral to get a speech assessment. We finally had the assessment yesterday and they both qualified. They are a littlel behind in their receptive language (understanding what people tell them). They are saying more and more new words but still use alot of made up words too. I have really been working with them so their expressive language (words they say) is good. I just don't have many ideas on how to work on receptive language.
So they will each go 2 times a week for 30 minutes each. Hopefully we can see 2 therapists and they can just each go in at the same time. We are starting on Friday so I will let you know how it goes!
Potty training is going SO well. We went today for their Hep A vaccine for preschool and then grocery shopping. They didn't have an accident the entire time we were out. Evan had no accidents today and Avery had 1. They really caught on quickly with this 3 day potty training method. I am so proud of them! They are such big kids now.

3 Day Potty Training
This weekend was what I thought would be a 3 day weekend so I was all set to try this 3 day potty training method with A&E. They have been showing more interest in the potty and hating when their diapers are dirty.
To my surprise, Andy had to work Saturday....double duty. To say I was irritated would be an understatement. Then our speech evaluation got moved up to today so I figured I might as well start on my own on Saturday and hope they got it by today.
I will admit I had some serious doubts by naptime Saturday. Avery pitched a fit every time she wet herself but then pitched a fit when I took her to the bathroom too. We went through 17 pairs of underwear with her the first day. If Evan hadn't done so well, I would have quit. He only went through 7 pairs and seemed to catch on pretty quickly that first day. Day 2 was much better for Avery and Andy was home to help out. Evan actually made it all the way until dinner without having an accident. Yesterday was Day 3 and Andy had them on his own all morning. They had been up during the night so I got up with them and ended up napping all morning. They both did really well and only had a few accidents each.
We had their speech evaluation today (which I will post about later) and I didn't want them worrying about the potty so I put them in pull-ups. We had to run to Wal-mart afterward so I tried to take them potty there (with potty seat covers of course since I am a germaphobe lol). They were so scared of the big potties and wouldn't even sit on them. We came home after lunch (we celebrated our success at a pizza buffet), and they had only gone once in their pull-ups I think. They went when we got home then it was time for a nap. Evan had no accidents today and Avery only had 1! That is a huge success.
I went out this evening and bought a potty seat adapter that will fit in the diaper bag so they can go while we are out. They are still wearing diapers at night and pull-ups for naptime. I am not ready for that hurdle quite yet and I don't think they are either.
I am so proud of how well they have done. I almost did it one at a time, starting with Avery but now I am glad I didn't. I think seeing Evan go really helped her and he caught on MUCH quicker than I expected.

Keeping them juiced up with juice boxes (they actually weren't big fans since they had never had straight juice before and I had to water it down in their sippy cups)
Who said potty training can't be fun?

Playground fun
A&E love the playground on base. They are the perfect size for the smaller one and I don't have to be right on top of them anymore to make sure they don't get hurt. They are also much better listeners so they stay on the playground and usually leave without too much of a hassle now.

May Updates
I feel like I have been posting mostly pics lately so here are some updates. We visited our last hope at a preschool today and I really liked it. A&E seemed to enjoy it too. We are going to register them and they will start in June! I am very excited and I know they will be excited to go back to school. I know they get bored of being with me all the time.
Since they stopped going to their last preschool, I have been "homeschooling". I got out some of my stuff from preschool and we have circle time and a table activity every day. They really like it. We talk about the weather, and count using our calendar, we talk about colors and shapes, and we do puzzles. We are also starting to work on using scissors. I forgot how basic you have to start when teaching kids how to use scissors. Right now we are working on holding them correctly and opening and closing them (one-handed).
Here they are painting with water during a table time activity.
They are going for a speech evaluation next Thursday to see if they need some help from a speech pathologist. They can pretty much repeat words to us but when they talk on their own, they seem to convert to their "twin language" and we can't understand what they mean. They are definitely making big improvements but if they can get help, I want them to have it. I will keep everyone updated on that!
Some things about Evan. He is really into circle time with me and counting. He can count to 14 on his own and recognizes some letters. He is consistent with recognizing A, E, I, O, X, Y, and Z. I don't sit and try to teach them letters so this was amazing to me a couple weeks ago when he was pointing out letters to me. He knows some colors now too although he isn't as interested in those. He is really into playing with balls and his cars and trains. His favorite song right now is Twinkle Twinkle Little Star and he sings it off and on all day. He also loves this Letter Sound song we sing at circle time and he cracks me up when he starts singing Apple, Apple, A, A, A. He is starting to be more caring with Avery and will ask if she is okay when she gets upset and rubs her back and tells her sorry. He is also starting to take up for himself more too with her!

Some things about Avery. She is very much into sticker books right now. We find stickers all around the house and on her all the time. She also loves puzzles. She has a harder time sitting and paying attention at our circle time than Evan does. She isn't interested in colors but can count pretty well. She can sing her ABC's and her favorite song is the Clean Up song and the letter sound song. She is still into her little plastic animals that she got for Easter and she takes those around the house with her. She really loves this dinosaur book we got from the library. It talks about dinosaurs being good and dinosaurs being bad. She loves to turn to the dinosaurs being bad and telling them "NO, NO!". She has been daddy's girl lately and loves spending time with him.

New Addition to Our Family
Yes we added to our family this weekend. On our weekly trip to Petsmart on Sunday, we took the plunge and bought A&E a betta fish and tank.
What?! You expected other news? Think again friends and family!!
His name is Senor Rojo (pronounced Roe-hoe for those non-Spanish speakers). A&E refuse to call him by name and just call him FISH! So far he has been pretty laid back. He just worries me because he likes to swim at the top of the tank and half the time I am worried he is dead. I have a bad track record with fish and don't want something to happen to him!

Sea World
We took over 100 pics at Sea World so I tried to just pick my favorites to show everyone. We had a great time although it was so hot. We all ended up sweaty and with red faces by the end (except Andy who has that great olive skin).

During the sea lion show (which was our fave), A&E kept getting squirted with water and HATED it. They made friends with a lady sitting by us and at the end there was ALOT of water that splashed up. She was so sweet and helped Andy block the water off of them (they were both sitting on me).
