A&E had their bi-annual dental visit yesterday to get their teeth cleaned. I dreaded it for days. Evan did NOT do very well last time. I didn't warn them ahead of time. I picked them up early and gave them a pep talk on the way. I reminded them that they get a prize if they behave. It actually worked! HOORAY! They both did very well and had no cavities. The dental assistants let them each pick 2 prizes and they each got a new toothbrush. What a relief!

Homework or homeschool?
A&E are doing great in PreK but with 19 kids in the class, they don't get much one on one time. I am ok with that though since it makes me feel useful to use my teaching knowledge.
E wants to play DS as soon as he gets home from school. I feel like I am letting him rot his brain playing so often so we made a deal. We do an 30-45 minutes of "school" at home with different activities each day. If they do their work, they can play games while I make dinner.
They really pick things up so quickly. On Mondays, they take turns reading with me. That is ballet night and we end up getting home late so we usually skip story time. This way we get it in before ballet. This week, Evan read an entire Dick and Jane book with minimal help. Avery is really improving on sounding out words so she read a couple of the stories on her own.
Other days, we do folder work (tracing letters, circling beginning sounds, dot to dot, etc), play word games, practice writing, and we recently started doing addition. They've really caught on. Evan insists he doesn't need the counting bears and will make marks to add. He seems to know everything sometimes. I should probably get used to that, right?

I'm sure this interest in doing work with me won't last forever so I better take advantage of it while I can.

Dance Party
I try to find something special for A&E at the library each week. I'm something of a library addict. I frequently visit 3 in the area. Hopefully I won't run out of things before we move again :)
Last week I found a Nickelodeon Dance game for the Wii. A&E don't play Wii on school nights so we got it out Friday night. They had a blast. It was so cute. I think they did every song by Sunday. Video games, eye hand coordination, following directions, and exercise = WIN

They loved that it was Nickelodeon characters and I loved that it was age appropriate and I didn't have to worry about the songs or dance moves.

A&E
At school, A&E had to make a drawing of themselves. The teachers traced their body and they had to decorate it and cut it out. Here is how they turned out!
It's hard to see but Avery does have a face.

Not sure what is going on with Evan and his random colorful stripes. ;) Maybe he is secretly a genius and he was labeling body parts?

Happy Valentine's Day!
Monday was a snow day for A&E so we worked on their Valentines for their class.

We also baked cookies for their teachers.

This morning our little Valentine's woke up to a surprise! Andy and I wrote on hearts for their door telling them things we love about them.

They had a party at school and the class made friendship stew in the classroom. Not sure how much they enjoyed the stew but I'm sure they enjoyed the treats for dessert.
They came home to find a scavenger hunt for their Valentine gifts. They had to follow the string attached to the hearts to find their gifts.

They were pretty excited!

Andy got some superman pj pants for being a super dad and some Andes mints (even though I cannot stand the smell of mint and chocolate). I got some comfy new t-shirts and m&ms. We were thinking alike buying comfy clothes and candy.

Happy 8 years to us!
Today is our 8 year marriage anniversary. We have a wedding and marriage anniversary since we were in the stages of planning our wedding when Andy surprised me by taking me to elope.
We were hoping for a snow day for everyone so we could hang out but unfortunately Andy had to go to work. We went out last night on a dinner date.

I am a very lucky girl and got a new setting for my diamond this year. I absolutely love it! I'm not really into jewelry but I rarely wore my old wedding set since it was yellow gold. We went in shopping for earrings and ended up deciding to reset my ring. It is GORGEOUS!

Andy is getting bowflex dial up weights since they have been on his list for a while. I had to get him something meaningful too so I made this.

It is the state of PA and TN since that is where we were each born.

Father Daughter Tea
Friday night was date night in our house. Andy and Avery went to a father daughter tea on base while Evan and I stayed in for a Wii night. I wanted to go bowling but he said he'd rather bowl on the Wii.
Avery and Andy got all dressed up for their father daughter date. She absolutely loved it! I'm so glad Andy signed them up for it.

Mmmm cupcake monster

Avery made a necklace and Andy made her a bracelet

They were all dressed up but Evan and I got to stay in on a cold night in our sweatpants. :)

Yikes my phone pics are grainy!
